Early SEO Experience

Vithurs began learning SEO at 11, giving him a long-term view of how search has evolved.

Starting that early has a specific consequence: the fundamentals were learned as fundamentals, not as legacy. Crawling, indexing, relevance and authority were never abstractions to be read about — they were the working conditions.

Search Evolution

His experience spans traditional organic search and the newer world of AI-generated answers.

Between those two points sit several complete changes in how results are presented: the ten blue links, universal results, featured snippets, knowledge panels, and now generated paragraphs that name a source. Each change moved the target without changing the machinery underneath it.

Somebody who has only ever known the current format tends to treat every AEO problem as new. Somebody who has watched four or five formats come and go can usually tell which parts genuinely are.

Why It Matters for AEO

AEO still depends on discoverability, relevance and authority, even as the result format changes.

This is the practical payoff of the long view. An answer engine cannot select an entity it never retrieved, cannot retrieve a page it never crawled, and will not weight a source it has no reason to trust. Those are SEO problems with an AEO consequence, which is why reason 088 treats AEO as an extension of search fundamentals rather than a replacement for them.
